View Full Version : 14.07@94.11 1.80 60' All Motor (Pulling a tire)
Magnus

Thats right, lifting a tire off the ground.
What a day... what a weekend.
I spent most of Saturday (until 1am Sunday morning) helping Dom with his suspension install. What a PITA it is. No matter what we do with cars, there is always one bolt that will not cooperate. This one bolt (On top of the strut) just happened to be rusted away... grrr.. anyway
Sunday morning, alarm clock goes off.. 6am. :( Snooze.. 6:10, snooze, 6:20, snoooze...... 7:00.. I'm tired.. I don't feel like goign to the track today. too tired.. But, I get up. I still have to change the wheels on the car and pull out the passenger seat and sub/amp. *sigh*.
8:00, car is ready and I'm ready to go.
9:30, arrive at the track. I don't see any cars? There is just 1 other car there.. My # is 2. *shrug*
I tech in, he asks me if I have a DS loop, no.. He recomends I get one.. we talk, he's a nice guy.. I wonder where everyone is, so does he. He tells me the track was just sprayed so take it easy out of the hole. (I'm thinking,... yea.. Magnus take it easy? hmm.. nah).. I pull up.. do a nice healthy burnout.. Nittos at 25psi.. line up.. BAM.. 1.832 60' and run a 14.17@93.90.. Heck yea! I know i can do better on the 60'.. so I know I can do better.. but still 14.17 is kick *** .. new best for me..
I decide to lean the car out a little more with the MAFT+. (Ported TB really makes it run rich). 1.812 60' 14.122@94.35! Heck yea!
I decide to add some more advance (Now at -6% +4). 1.806 60' 14.099@93.95.. SWEET
I'm coming around to hot lap (My car really does well hot lapping).. I go around the burnout box and as I'm backing up, the pit director comes up to me, and I roll down my window.. he says.. "Congratulations, you just pulled a tire." I was awe struck, I responded several times, with .. What?? Huh?? No way. Yeup. He tells me to do it again, so.. who am I to say no..
I was able to do it a few more times. I was really launching HARD.
Now... there was only me and another car there.. So I was talkin a lot with the director. I would stage the car and he would come up some what close and watch.. so he was able to get a great view.. He told me that the tire woudl hang for a split second. Totally kick *** .
Anyway, I'm about done for the day, I've hit some great #'s so I tell him this will be my last pass, he says Take care, so do I...
I do a healthy burnout.. stage it.. BAM
60' : 1.802
330': 5.619
1/8 : 8.865@74.24
1/4 : 14.076@94.11
and sure enough, I FELT the tire come back down. It didn't hang long at all, but it did come up.
Now, your wondering how I can pull a tire on a 1.80 60' when it takes V8's 1.6's and 1.5's.. So am I.. I did some thinking about this on the way home.. First, I lowered the rear PSI to 20 for the latter passes. I had light weight skinnies on front and no A/C or sway bar. The front of my car is somewhat light. Also, my converter hits HARD. For those who have seen my car launch at the track, I'm sure they understand.
But, if I have the power to pull the wheels, how come my 60's are not better? Well, its not realy power to pull the wheel, but more like shock. I was able to shock the car enough to get the wheel to hop off the ground... Plus, with the V8's who pull tires, they still have much more power to accelerate for a quicker time where as I only have the power of the v6 so it won't accelerate that fast..
How much did you pull the tire?
Well, not much at all.. Maybe an inch for a foot or so. Nothing at all like our V8 brothers do. It was very minute.
I was thinking about getting HAL's for the front for the sole purpose of pulling a tire, but It seems that stock V6 suspension is adequate. I will probably do lighter A-Arms and possibly K-member to lighten up the front even more.
Also, I'm looking forward to spraying 125 TNT out of the hole on a 15x10 slick. :D
In conclusion, I am VERY happy with this timeslip. Not only did I have a great 60', I had a good 1/4 ET AND finally a good MPH.
The temp was upper 40's and there was a 0-5mph tail wind.
I'm very happy. Also, this was done with stock heads & cam. The valve covers have never been off my motor. I'm lookin forward to my heads/cam #'s.
Take Care.

GEEEEEEZZZZZ Magnus! You auto guys make a launch look sooooo simple graemlins/crybaby.gif That's a kick@$$ time and mph. Man, that MAFT+ is really helping, are you using 93octane, or a high octane mix? Congrats! With the heads and cam, you can only get better! graemlins/burnout.gif

Royce, straight 93 octain. I almost always only fill up with Amoco but this morning because I was running late I put some Mobil in at a rest area. Maybe I should use Mobil gas from now on. lol
Mike, MAFT+ is a great tool to tune you car precisely. Good luck next week. Traction is what will get you your 1/8th so make sure you hook it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

OUTFUKINGSTANDING! congrats man! so you're gonna try for 13's before opening it up and before nitrous right? looks like PSJ might be right. maybe with the right setup the ol' V6 can hit 13's.
Hmm, where's the icon for a little man that bows?

Ya know at first I'm like no frigin way but then I thought.
I've got several shots of my bird launching
One with 410's (stock tires in front), one with 342's (and skinnies) and one with 323's (skinnies) all stock converter.
Out of all those pictures the 4 10's n/a and stock front tires pulled the nose the hardest up in the air.
So, 373's, 3200 stall, no ac (32 pounds?), no sway bar (12 lbs?), skinnies (20 lbs per tire for 40 total)...... you gotta get a frigin picture of that!!!!!!!!!!
Send that out to car magazines!!!!!!!
They will eat it up right away and you will be in!!!!!!!
damn you, you beat me too it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
congrats
people (v8's) will doubt it so now you need a picture for proof

Thanks guys!
I had open Y-Pipe. Still have it today. It's so irritating. :(
MAFT+ is made by modern musclecar and it can be bought at ramchargers.com under custom products.
I think my stall was flashing yesterday around 3400 or so, maybe a little higher. I always forget to look beacuse I'm too focused on the track.
I might try for 13's with stock heads/cam, but I feel I'm close enough so I'm very satisfied with the times. As soon as my heads/cam get here though I know I'll want to put them in asap.
I will definately hit 13's NA before I nitrous again.
Thanks again guys. smile.gif

There are some MAFT+ discussions in General Help and Advanced Tech.. just do a search, if you don't find the answer and your question falls under one of the existing topics, bring that topic to the top.. or start a new one. This is Drag Racing. ;)
I might try for 13's this sunday ONLY if the weather is better. I'll see if I can shave 50 lbs off the car during the week to help.. I'd even remove bumper supports to get a 13.9 NA stock heads/cam.
It's up to the weather now.

bluecmaro96, I actually believe Yank is better. I've often thought of going to a ST3500 for strictly NA purposes. I have been looking forward to having a competitor with a Yank converter and I still am.. I'd really like to see what somebody can do with a different converter.
Most LS1 guys will take a yank converter over a PI any day.

alright, let's come down from the pedestal, and put a pin needle thru our head to bust that ego really quick ;)
now that that's done with, i thought it would be convenient to ask it here, since searches that i had done didn't yield anything  haha  that being said, could you answer my question, lord all high and mighty of all v6 powered Fbodies?
EDIT: sorry, just got back from looking at GTPs, and bah! nothing. i'm a little upset

Woah, easy killer.
No ego or high horse at all. I do what I can to help others, I like helping... It's that specifics about the MAFT+ itself belong in the tech sections and not in drag racing.. it would be off topic then.. I'm not a big fan of topics that stray off their original topic.
I searched for MAF Translator in both General Help and Advanced Tech and had many results.. Here is a good one:
http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=16&t=000125
If you have more questions about it, feel FREE to make a new topic about it. ;) If its a more basic question with ?'s regarding its operation, post in General Help. If you wish to get in-depth with the tuning aspect, post in the Advanced Tech.
About the ego comment.. I try pretty damn hard to keep myself down to earth. I barely every post my sig and I never gloat about my timeslips. I do think of myself to be a 3800 Series II Guru but in no way am I a Lord all High and Mighty or a God of anything. I'm just yer typical 21yr old average Joe.
