96s are different than 98+, 96s had a angled throttlebody with some other minor differences

I have a combination of a 1996/2000 engine for you, but it has a few more miles. It runs flawlessly, I just changed it out at the same time as I changed the transmission, which died due to the notorious 4l60e valve body defect. The engine was never abused, but it does have 120K on it.

I put a 2000 engine & trans into my '96, so it definitely can be done, that's why I have all the 2000 parts left over. I swapped on my existing plenum, TB, and a/c compressor (didn't want to recharge my a/c system) exhaust manifolds, so the 2000 ones remain with this engine. Besides these parts, the engine is exactly the same.

make me an offer, I'm not looking to make a fortune here, but I'm not giving it away either. I do guarantee that it's a strong engine, I was still driving it about 5 weeks ago.

Get Auto Trader from your local gas station. Flip to the back pages and look for GM heaven or GM/Ford Universe, they sell 3.8s 96-up with all the harness... cheap.
