I currently have a 97 firebird wiht the monsoon package, and i was wondering what a good replacement would be for my front speakers because the passenger side is blown. Any suggestions? thanks

Quick question, I heard if you keep the monsoon head unit then aftermarket speakers dont sound that great. (something about the monsoon factory speakers being amplified???)

How much do you want to spend on the speakers?

and do you want to run amplified or un amplified?

I dont want to spend a lot of money at all, but im more concerned at this point on if and how it can be done.

As far as amplified or unamplified, I would just like to put in replacements for whats there now. if i run unamplififed speakers does that mean the system wont be as loud as the factory set up?

If I run amplified, do I need to upgrade anything else besides the actual speakers. (i dont want to get into adding a sub, or an amp somewhere in the car) if its a direct replacement for a part that is already there then maybe.

One of the best "bang for your buck" component sets is the Phoenix Gold RSd 6.5" speakers. I thnk they're $87 shipped on ebay. If you don't want to deal with a seperate tweeter and mid, you can get coax speakers. They normally don't sound as good, but are much easier to install. The RSd coax's are good, so are the pioneer REVs.

Ok those look pretty good for the doors.

If I am understanding all of this I am able to replace the speakers in the car and not worry about doing an amp and I will have better sound than the factory?

Stupid Question On the EBAY pics for the Phoenix set what are the 2 things next to the speakers? and no i dont mean the tweeters?

Also what would you suggest for the rear seat (6.5s as well, but with no tweeters) and then the rear hatch (4 inches with tweeters or mids next to them)

thanks

They are passive crossovers. Speaker leads are suppose to go to them first, then out to the respective speaker. Sends each speaker the frequency range that it plays best. However, for this situation, I don't think I'd even use them. The factory tweeters are powered off the headunit and the Monsoon amp has EQing built in.

Ditch the hatch speakers all together. You can't even hear them. Just disconnect them. Yes. I'm dead serious.

Rear seat sail panel speakers.... there is no other option:

Dual 2 ohm version is needed. The price is per speaker. Like I said, there is no other option.... don't ask questions. Search for a topic a week or so ago regarding them. We have a member on this board that works for ED and can help you out on that price.

The CDT M6s are used there too :) Although not with as much popularity since they're almost twice the money.
