This will be the date in which GM will give the details on the 5th generation Camaro. This was taken from MFBA.org, posted by OctaneZ28...

To the Many Friends of Camaro:

We know it seems to many of you this day would never arrive, but on Monday, July 21, 2008, at 4:00 PM, EDT, Ed Peper, Chevrolet’s General Manager, and Ed Welburn, GM’s Director of Design, will unveil the details of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. This unveil will be the first step in answering the many questions (or should we say confirming the many rumors) surrounding the new Camaro.

Due to many factors, we are not able to extend an invitation to the entire Camaro community to join us in person for the dual, simultaneous unveilings that will take place in Warren, MI, and Los Angeles, CA.

We understand many of you may be disappointed not being able to see the car “in the flesh” that day (and therefore give you a reason to meet us at Indy in September); therefore, we are arranging a live webcast of the Warren unveiling on the GM Next website.

On Monday, July 21, just before 4:00 PM, EDT, go to http://camaro.gmnext.com and click on the "Camaro webcast" link at the top of the page (the Camaro link goes live July 17) to tune in the unveiling. If you cannot watch the webcast live, no worries, an archive of the broadcast will be available on GMNext.com and Chevy.com/Camaro.

Speaking of Chevy.com/Camaro, the next evolution of the site will also debut late Monday afternoon. The next evolution will include images of the production model, exclusive production animation, and a downloadable PDF file containing specifications on the 2010 Camaro. After the webcast, come on over and see the changes for yourself.

If all your questions are not answered during the reveal, a web-chat on the 2010 Camaro will take place the next day (Tuesday, July 22) at GMNext.com. The chat will start at 9:30 AM, EDT, and will feature experts from Chevrolet Marketing, Design and Engineering.

Since Camaro’s production announcement in August 2006, many people throughout GM have been passionately developing a car worthy of its heritage that features beautiful styling, segment-leading performance, excellent fuel economy and advanced technology. Quite honestly, we can't wait to show you all the work on Monday.

Sincerely,

Team Camaro
(Cheryl Pilcher; John Fitzpatrick & Scott Settlemire)

This is good information on the 5th Generation Camaro. Those of who can listen to the webcast, do so. I will be home to listen after the press conference, so I will have to listen to the archive. If you have any opinions, here is the place to have them.

Thanks
Wes

I've had this penciled in on my calender since last week...I'll be watching live as long as that website isn't bogged down by the extremely high traffic.

the specifications pdf lists the 350Z as its competition...interesting...I suppose that's referring to the LS and LT models

Nice color options as well as engine options, but wtf!? LS and LT is official?! That blows.

Archer
07-21-2008, 03:28 PM
so I take it they arnt staying with the original Camaro, RS, Z28, SS models.. they are just going to make it a normal car like a Cheval Caviler LS??? wtf? Its a sharp car, but Its something IM going to have to grow on me.. because Im just advancing to the 98-02 front end finally.

RS Appearance Package available on LT and SS, with HID headlamps with integrated halo ring feature, spoiler, specific taillamps and 20-inch wheels

The original plan was to make the Z28 the limited production model, like the SS of the 4th gen. There was no limited production models in the first years of the 4th gen, so I think they are likely going to bring out the Z28 as the limited production model in later years.

But the LS, LT nonsense reminds me of early 90s corsicas.

It seems the only model they have done away with is the Z28, which in my opinion is the one thing they cannot get rid of.

That hasnt been officially denied either, nor confirmed.

How are they touting the fuel economy as that great when most of us are already getting that in our cars as it is? 10 year newer technology and that's the best they could do? I've seen 28mpg out of my car when it was straight highway. Again other than being able to say I have a new camaro why would you want to shell out the dough for that car?

That's true, I edited my post after realizing that.

Well for one thing, look at the weight difference. The SS model is over 3900lbs! Also, the the EPA ratings, though more "conservative" are, in my opinion, more accurate for certain situations, but less accurate for others. The new EPA highway rating for our cars is more like 25, when I've been able to consistently get the old rating of 27 i believe it was.

The new Camaro has 100 more horses as well, with a naturally aspirated engine. I have to say thats not too shabby, even with foreign makers.

True 100 more horses is nice but your also gaining a few hundred pounds. It just doesn't seem worth it to me. I guess they will be worth something when the production runs are cut short by exploding costs. Uh oh sorry that's a another topic we already discussed :D

piss monkey is out of this thread...

are you referring to foreign as in Canadian production, or Australian engineering?

So the only differences I've been able to gather between the LS and LT models is staggard wheels on the LT. Does anyone else know what the real purpose of having two separate names will be? Maybe a luxury or performance package on the LT over the LS as well?

EDIT: Also looks like they managed to give us even less cargo space in the new camaro. Jeeze, a redesigned, much heavier car, and even less storage than the already lame at best 4th gen trunk.

So all we need now is base price and an options list... and maybe a gaurantee of no more than say 20% dealer markup... and thats pushing it...

vanbibber

dealers will either make or break this car. if them bastards mark them up rediculously high, its doomed.

after seeing this new release info i went searching to see if i could find any info on the many gm websites to answer this question. only thing i could find was a 9 page sales brochure, the RS appearance package will only be available for the Lt and SS models, includes spoiler 20 inch wheels and unique tail lamps and halo rings on headlamps, fog lights will be standard on SS and Lt models, SS will get competition mode, and manual shift will get a launch assistance, and larger Brembo brakes are an option on Lt models and standard on SS. the v6 manual 6 speed will be made by aisin the v8 will get the standard tremec. there will be no spare tire unless you get the option, standard will be a tire inflater kit.

that was all i picked up with 9 pages of skimming. also i dont know how old it was so some of this may vary

Im talking with comparison to Toyota, Nissan, Honda, those makers.

The numbers are quite impressive IMO .... cranking out 300 HP out of 3.6 is pretty good IMO ... that would be waaaay more than enough for me ..... the gas mileage looks great too

Im talking with comparison to Toyota, Nissan, Honda, those makers.

NIssan did 306 HP from their 3.5L VQ engine and they are looking at 330+(at least) HP for the 2011 370Z from their new 3.7L ... but you need to put premium fuel to see all the HP where GM is doing with regular unleaded .....

I am gonna go ahead and say I'm impressed with GM for keeping the concept very original .... and I may actually have to trade my Z in when it becomes afforable ...because I have a feeling , dealers are going to mark up these car like it's no ones business

I can't say for sure if you will be able to turn the traction control off...I think so as most cars with traction control provide the option to turn it off.

and yes, those numbers are what GM has issued for the engines.

from what ive read, you'll be able to disable the traction control

is it just not listed anywhere or does it say no limited slip for v6, could just be a standard option.

I saw it was standard on the SS, don't see it as an option (yet) for the LT/LS (now I feel like I'd be buying a truck or an impala).

vanbibber

No Limited-Slip option for the V6 =(

do you really think theyre going to produce a 300hp v6 car and it not have limited slip?

David8399
07-25-2008, 10:44 AM
i have been reading info looking for something that says anything about limited slip or the lack there of, and the only thing i could find was a side note saying that the ss has limited slip. everything i have read only names rear end on the platform, so even if there is no limited slip for the v6 you can just get one outta a v8 like now. but i think it will be like now where you can get the v6 with and without g80 option.
