  • Mystery clunk in front, tire not centering.

First, it has always bothered me when any front tire is slightly rearward of centered in its wheelwell. Especially on my 4th gen.
Then once I was nearly home, it made a clunk while backing out of a parking spot. I babied it home, and found a loose nut for the bolt holding the front of the left lower arm. Then I discovered the frame hole is slotted. Dumb. Looks like you must choose between tire centered, or proper negative camber.
Anyway, I pulled it all the way out, tightened it as far out as the slot allowed, replaced the wheel/tire, then began backing out of the driveway.
    CLUNK!
Now I'm wondering if I missed something, or if something needs welded. I got the Prothane bushings but was hoping to return them.
If necessary, I will relocate the trailing ends of both lower arms to get camber with centered. I'm just angry to discover this is even necessary. I expected GM to get it right to begin with.

I would check the a arm bushings upper and lower and replace as needed. Then a good alignment.
