  • True duals???

So first off can it be done? I was going to go with pacesetters headers, Magnaflow Hi flow cat., and already have a flowmaster 80. All that was going to be 3 inches. Now my friend worked at this shop and he made his own exhaust when he worked there and I was going to have them put all that in but he came up with this idea of me having true duals. His brother inlaw has his own shop to and races too. He want him, me, along with his brother shop to make the true duals coming off the manifolds into Hi flow cats and then into 30 ser. flowmasters. Well I think it would be alittle less money due to me not buying the headers and just keeping the exhaust manifolds and I have a 2000 camaro so they are already kinda good and the fact that it is my best friends bother inlaw's shop. The only thing that scares me is that I will loose power. I hear that even V8 can loose power is this ture? tell me wut ur thoughts are plezzz Thanks for all the help

    Re: True duals???

well I don't know exactly all the specs but I was on magnaflows website last night and looking around and I read in one of the Q and A pages that a single exhaust with pipe 1/4 to 1/2 bigger size than your stock is the best for low end torque and horsepower. (http://magnaflow.com/07techtips/faq/question14.asp, http://magnaflow.com/07techtips/faq/question10.asp) these are the 2 lnks that i referenced i this article.

i wouldnt go true dual 3" on a Naturally asperated engine. that equals 6" in exhaust diameter and thats huge. You will deff. lack back pressure and loose horsepower. As far as magnaflow exhaust, its 2 3/4" i believe....magnaflow is what i have and its deff. a nice exhaust system for the money. If you wanna be different just have one 2-3/4" pipe made up or 3" (just not dual 3") and make a dual tipped side exhaust before your rear tires or something or have them create a middle exhaust.

it can be done. do a search and find posts by blacksport. he did it on his car. i think he even did an H pipe before it toasted the motor.

i think he was running dual 2.25 pipes IIRC.

check that he was running 2 1/2 inch pipes. he wasnt a big fan of the sound and decided to go with an H pipe.

in all honesty its not worth it IMO

            Re: True duals???

Ya I would think you would have to go with a smaller pipe when I stated that it all was going to be 3 inches I was talking about my plans with the headers and such. I was thinking about the 2 1/4 piping for the dual exhaust because if i was going to go with a 3inch one pipe exhaust " / " that by two exhaust manifolds thats 1.5. So two 2 1/4 inch pipes I think would do fine. I'm still not all for the true duals I wouldnt know really how good it would sound and how much power I would gain or even loose with it. The price doesnt matter so I might still go with the headers and one piping exhaust.

              Re: True duals???

this has been asked before, and in another thread i posted alot of pictures and links, search and see if you can find it.

our cars wont ever sound all that great, but if i went true duals i'd get 2" piping. ALOT of v8 guys go 2.5" and 3". so 2'' would be fine on our motor's. but unless your putting out a good amount of power, its not going to be worth the hassle. headers,highflowcat/no cat and a good flowing 3" cat-back will be fine even with heads and a cam.

Personally GM V6's dont sound good true dual. Mustangs do.

you're saying an "X-pipe toasted the motor"?
what part of the motor did it "toast"?

I remember Dominic did this, but he took his apart because he said it was way too loud for a day to day commute. He posted pics though and it looked nice.

Also I have to pass emissions You guys and gals think that would be a prob???? Im also getting to magnaflow Hi flow cats and im keeping my stock manifolds. My friend thats helping me with all this seems to think that i need 2 resonators aswell to make it louder but I think it will be loud enough. Thanks everyone for the help so far.

i think that will sound great for a 6 banger. i have a single in dual out flowmaster 40 super delta and its loud and sounds good. get alot of compliments and some have mistaken me for a v8.

                          Re: True duals???

It would be awsome to have the look or true duals but it wouldnt do any good unless you had alot large motor wont be enough back pressure.

                            Re: True duals???

Don't put true duals on the camaro. We only have 3.8 Liters, and even if you have a power adder, you still aren't creating enough gases to make it worth it. When I installed my new exhaust, the guy told me not to put even 2 and 1/2 pipe if I'm not going to supercharge it. He put 2 and 1/4, and a high flow magnaflow and it's great. Don't put dual. It will ruin your low end torque. It would only be worth it if you have a v8 of decent size... aka, the LS1, and even then, some single exhausts can even be too much.

i see everyone on here is against true duals on the six. if its so bad why is that all they make aftermarket for the mustang 3.8 ?
