    Re: LSD pros and cons

Pros: 100000x better traction, no more one-tire-fires
Cons: expensive, but other than that...no cons!

I think it was the best mod I did for my car :)

When one rear tire spins you just don't move. If both rear tires spin the whole rear of the car likes to shift sideways, following the contour of the road or towards the outside of a turn. As long as your drive the car according to the road conditions (rain, snow, ice) there is no problem. If you punch the throttle at 4k rpm in the middle of a turn when the roads are wet... well, yeah then you will break the rear end loose and it will kick sideways on you. There are certain circumstances when this can be fun though.

Limited slip was one of my very first mods, I wouldn't go without it now.

You're installing this yourself, right? Or are you doing gears at the same time?

If you're not changing the gear ratio then the differential install is pretty simple. Just pull the old one out, swap the ring gear and put the new one in. I've done this several times now, there's a writeup with pics on my site.

If you're changing the gear ratio, from 3.42 to 3.73 for example, then yes they have to be aligned correctly. If you're just changing out the carrier though you don't need any special tools at all. Socket set, some wrenches, breaker bar and a pry bar.

just do the research and make your own decisions. don't let your peers decide for you

As was mentioned earlier be very careful the first time you drive on wet roads with a LSD. If the roads are wet at all pretty much dont touch the pedal around turns. It is very easy to underestimate what a lowly v6 camaro/firebird will do in wet conditions.
