3.4 headgasket

So who recently done one ? Details ? I never did one but getting a 94 that needs it done. Whats the best place to get the stuff ?

non performance i would say just a felpro replacement

fel-pro would be your best best. make sure it didn't ruin any bearings or freeze the pistons up or score them in the cylinders and you should be golden.

is there a guide with torque specs anywhere ?

gm actually issued a revision for the headbolt torque for that car it says now is only supposed to be torqued to 44ftlbs then rotate bolt additional 95 degrees

thanks for that tip. Just took a look at it. This should be a fun project providing i can get it running. The car looks dirty as can be. Has been sitting for like 14months. engine bay looked decent though

thats next. Anyone got any tips ? Forgive the ignorance but the exhaust manifolds need to come off right ?

The exhaust manifolds should be removed. However, in the past I have removed heads from other vehicles with the manifolds attached because the bolts were frozen. So if there is enough clearance and you run into an issue it they can be removed with the manifolds attached.

called it a day for today. Got the driver side head off and gasket looked fine to me. On the pass side that last bolt is giving me trouble. I was able to slide out the gasket however i still want to get the head off.

The pass side head right at the copper ring there is a small piece missing. not sure if that was the problem.

That might have done it. Are you going to have the heads checked before putting it back together? Make sure you clean it up really well before reassembly.

How did you get the paint that shiny???
